(CounterThink) I've warned readers for years about the "coming U.S. police state," even while being blasted by critics for exaggerating the issue. "We're not in a police state," they often tell me in feedback emails. "People are only arrested if they commit real crimes," they explain.
Tell that to Steve Bierfeldt, a Ron Paul supporter who was recently harassed, detained and threatened by TSA officers at the St. Louis airport. What was Steve's crime? He carried $4700 in a metal cash box -- money that was earned from selling fundraising items at a freedom-oriented event.
For the "crime" of carrying cash, Steve was detained by armed TSA agents, held in a room, threatened with being handcuffed, told he was being taken to the police station, and threatened with being investigated by DEA agents.
What was Steve Bierfeldt's real crime? He refused to answer the questions of the police state TSA thugs who insisted he had to explain where he got $4700 in cash!
In a mind-blowing audio recording which you can hear on this YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMB6...), Steve repeats that he's willing to cooperate with the law, but that he doesn't know whether he's legally required to explain the origins of his $4700 in cash.
This outraged the jack-booted TSA thugs who are used to people kow-towing to their arrogant authority, resulting in Steve being threatened in numerous ways.
Classic signs of the police stateHave you ever noticed that the TSA is run by egomaniacs who lack so much self esteem that they seem to enjoy inflicting authoritarian punishment on innocent victims? These are classic signs of the emerging U.S. police state, by the way. The very same behavior was seen in Nazi Germany, of course, or even in the secret police of the former U.S.S.R.
When power is given to a few, they will inevitably find ways to wield that power over others, often to an extreme. It is the expansion of this power -- and the coupling of it with tactics of fear and intimidation -- that create a de facto police state.
Watch the video (above) and ask yourself an honest question: Is this something that would happen in a truly free country? Is it now illegal to refuse to answer the questions of overzealous TSA thugs who have effectively become the "bullies of the airports?"
Seriously: Some of these TSA agents seem to be suffering from the adult side effects of child abuse. They have fragile egos and poor cognitive skills. They only find success on government payrolls, where the fact that they get to carry a gun and a badge makes up for their low self esteem. It even grants them power over others -- something they would never normally experience in everyday life. Thus, TSA jobs tend to attract the very worst candidates -- those who wish to wield power over others as some sort of psychological strategy to compensate for their own shortcomings.
I don't intend to paint all TSA agents with this brush, by the way. I realize there are exceptions to this observation -- professional, courteous and mindful TSA agents who are humble and intelligent at the same time. I've personally never had any problems with TSA agents, and I've met quite a few cool ones who had a sense of humor. But for every nice one, there seems to be another one who's nothing more than a common street thug hiding behind a government badge.
Remember: While most sectors of the economic are crashing, government jobs are booming! It's all part of the Big Government Police State system: Put everybody on the government payroll, eliminate the free market, and run a whole new fascist state on the backs of the working few.
Soon, you'll be questioned not merely for carrying cash, but even for carrying non-conformist beliefs. Are you a Ron Paul supporter? An official report put out by the state of Missouri (where I grew up) has labeled Ron Paul supporters as possible "terrorists." Merely questioning the false authority in America now gets you labeled an enemy of the state.
These are all classic signs of a police state nation. It's no longer even debatable: The United States of America is a functioning police state based on principles of fascism and centralized control over the economy.
The question is not whether TSA thugs illegally detained Steve Bierfeldt; the question is when will they illegally detain YOU? (And what will they use as the excuse... are your shoes the wrong color?)
It is now quite clear that the real criminals are the ones running the security systems in America while the real freedom-loving Americans are the ones being detained and arrested.
The only way to move through American society unmolested is to surrender your freedoms to the police state, shuffle along with your head down, and do what you're told. And that's the whole point, of course: To create a nation of mind slaves who are too afraid to question authority.
Steve Bierfeldt refused to be a mind slave. And for that, he is a true American hero.
What should really happen in the aftermath of all this is that President Obama should award Bierfeldt some sort of presidential Medal of Freedom, and the thugs who detained him should be arrested and tried for kidnapping.
